Nestled on the verdant slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, the village of Materuni Village is a traditional home of the Chagga people. The village lies just about 13–15 km from the town of Moshi — making it very accessible as a one-day outing from Moshi (or even from Arusha with a longer transfer).
The tour combines nature, culture, coffee and a bit of adventure: you hike a gentle-to-moderate trail through coffee and banana plantations, lush rainforest and farm land; enjoy panoramic views (on clear days you might even glimpse the snow-capped peaks of Kilimanjaro); arrive at a stunning waterfall; take a dip if you like; learn the traditional Chagga way of producing coffee from bean to cup; and enjoy a hearty local lunch with traditional food (and optional local banana beer).
Because of its accessibility, cultural immersion, and relaxed pace — this tour works well either as a stand-alone day trip (for travelers not doing full safaris), or as a rest-day / acclimatization / short-break activity either before or after a safari or mountain hike with Chipmunk Expeditions.
